Size & Measurements
Vintage garments vary greatly in cut, shape and fit and it is almost always possible to have an item altered to your particular liking.  Sleeve and hem lengths can easily be adjusted by a tailor from your local dry cleaners and feel free to inquire with any other questions regarding alterations before you purchase.  We suggest taking your own bust, waist and hip measurements since vintage garments tend to be more fitted and it is often the best way to determine proper fit. Measure around the fullest area of your bust and hips and narrowest part of your waist while wearing minimal undergarments. Most of our pieces are measured flat and it can be helpful to take a garment with a similar cut and style that fits you well and compare some measurements, for example when considering coats that need room for layering or a-line shift dresses that are meant to fit snugly over the bust and flare out from the waist and hip. Lay the garment out on a flat, even surface with all zippers and buttons closed and extend the tape in as straight a line as possible for each measurement listed below.

Bust: measure across chest from one underarm seam to the other and double
Waist: measure across narrowest part of the waist from one side seam to the other and double
Hip: measure across widest area of hips (about 7-9” below waist) from one side seam to the other and double
Shoulder: measure straight across the upper back of garment
Sleeve: measure from point where the armhole seam meets the shoulder seam to sleeve edge
Arm: measure from neck edge, over the shoulder line, to bottom hem edge (for garments without sleeve seams, such as capes)
Length: measure from neckline seam at center back or from middle of shoulder seam to hemline if garment has a low neckline
Bodice Length: measure from middle of shoulder seam, over bust area, to waist seam
Skirt Length: measure from top of waistband at center back to hemline
Inseam: measure from the center of crotch along seam of one leg to hemline
